TMHA Policies And Guidlines
Atom Development Program Policy and Guidelines:
Terrace Minor Hockey will provide and Atom Development Program as part of the Associations hockey skill development philosophy. This program is intended to develop the better skilled Atom player’s skill through more advanced instruction, more sophisticated and higher paced drills and by playing with players of similar abilities.
Terrace Minor Hockey is dedicated to hockey skill development through a strong House Division Program and through Rep Team competition and we will strive to provide all players with the opportunity to develop their skills.
It is the policy of Terrace Minor Hockey that the Atom Development Program will be planned and implemented as a skill development program first, and to provide “select team” competition only at the last tournament offered, and only when those games do not interfere with the House Division schedule. The Atom Development Program will not become an opportunity to form an Atom Rep Team.
Coach Selection:
Coaches will apply to the Atom Division Head, and will be selected by the executive, to coach the Atom Development program based on their hockey courses, experience and commitment to the program and its guidelines. Coaches are responsible for ensuring that the Atom Development program follows Terrace Minor Hockey Bylaws and will be held accountable for running a fair and enriching program to the skaters selected.
Player Selection:
All players in the Atom Division will be evaluated using a fair and objective evaluation system, supervised by the Atom Division Head & Atom Development Coach. Final player selection will be made with input from all Atom Head Coaches of that year. The Atom Development Team will consist of a minimum of 25 players to a maxim in of 32 players. The most skilled players from 1st and 2nd year will be invited to participate in the Atom Development Program.
Fairness and Opportunity Guidelines:
All selected players will be given equal opportunity and ice time to develop their skills within the program whether it is during practice ice or games. Teams of players will be formed for specific exhibition games or tournaments, and all players will be given an equal opportunity to participate in these games throughout the season.
Ice time will be provided to the Atom Development Program, at times that DO NOT conflict with existing TMH needs. All ice times will be requested through the Atom Division Head & 1st vice and scheduled by the TMH Ice Co-ordinator. Any Atom Development activities can not result in cancellation of a house game or a player missing his/her house game with out permission from their coach and Atom division head.
Tournaments:
When tournaments do not interfere with the Atom House Schedule, an Atom Development Team may participate, with the approval of the Atom Division Head. TMH will pay for the entry fee of 2 tournaments throughout the year with the expectations that all players will have an opportunity to attend one of those tournaments.
Any tournaments chosen over and above these will be the financial responsibility of the parents. All players will have equal opportunity to play in tournaments through out the year except for the year end tournament where the top 17 players will be invited to attend. If there is more than one year end tournament, all players will be given opportunity to attend one of them.
Any conflicts, issues or questions that may arise about the Atom Development Program, parents/coaches are to contact the Atom Division Head, First vice or Head Coach.
