Bus Policy
11.11 BUS OPERATIONS
Player safety is TMHAs utmost priority. Teams are strongly encouraged to use the bus whenever available and circumstances allow.
The Bus Coordinator is responsible for the booking, maintenance and operation of TMHA buses. The Bus Coordinator will recommend to the Executive any major expenditure on the buses. The Bus Coordinator will schedule use of the bus based upon who requested it first and the distance to be travelled. Rep team travel will be given priority due to the amount of travel required. In the event of competing requests, priority is given to the team traveling the furthest distance, then by seniority. The Bus Coordinator’s decision shall be final.
BUS USER FEES: are collected to offset the cost of annual maintenance, insurance and repairs.
A user fee of .40 cents per km will be charged for travel, excluding Prince Rupert, Kitimat and Smithers.
The Bus Coordinator will ensure that drivers have submitted a current Driver’s Abstract and that only qualified and acceptable drivers operate the bus. The driver will maintain a driver’s log for each trip the bus is operated.
Teams using the bus will ensure that:
- Teams are to provide the Bus Coordinator with a list of drivers as soon as rep tryouts have concluded
- The bus is to be returned clean and refueled at the team’s expense. If the bus is returned in unsatisfactory condition a cleaning fee of $200 will be issued to the team payable prior to the team using the bus again.
- Any damage caused by the team is their responsibility;
- Drivers will conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and will maintain the bus maintenance log for any needed repairs.
- Major repairs will be reported to the Bus Coordinator who will determine
what isrequired; and - Safe use of the bus is the team’s responsibility as continued use is a privilege that can be revoked.
- Players and staff who are travelling on a bus to and from a sanctioned hockey event may not get changed while standing as the bus is moving. Any change of clothes must only happen when the bus is pulled over and when the bus is at a complete stop.
- Team personnel and any individual on the bus must wear seat belts if the bus is currently equipped with seat belts where they are available.
- While travelling on buses, there shall be no smoking, vaping, chewing tobacco or drinking alcohol by any individual, including players, Coaches, Managers, parents etc.
The TMHA bus is not to be rented in the off season due to third party liability issues. The bus coordinator will continue to maintain the bus in the off season and ensure readiness for the beginning of September.
